Increase in cases of norovirus

Important update regarding rise in norovirus

We are seeing an increase in norovirus cases in Cornwall. If you have symptoms please do not visit a healthcare setting (GP surgery, hospital or care home).

  • If you or your family have symptoms, please do not visit a healthcare setting.
  • Get better at home with simple self-care.
  • Stay off school or work until you have not been sick or had diarrhoea for at least 2 days. This is when you are most infectious.
  • Important

If you have sickness and diarrhoea symptoms and you are due to attend a GP or outpatient appointment, please contact the clinic before setting off from home, as it may be possible to have the consult over the phone, online or they can reschedule.

  • Selfcare tips

    – Stay at home and get plenty of rest.
    – Drink lots of fluids.
    – Take paracetamol if you’re in discomfort
    – Wash your hands with soap and water often (hand gel is not effective against norovirus).

Important: Remember

Alcohol gels won’t kill norovirus
